LEGO Universe

Could LEGO Universe be the nail in the coffin for my WoW gaming? I hope I won't have to pay out for two accounts (one for me, one for Jack) to play LEGO's new, MMO game this summer, but I have a feeling that I will.

It's likely that Jack will go nuts for this. I wonder if his friends will also get involved and they'll all be playing together online. My generation didn't do this until we got to university age & had left home. It's likely that LEGO will get this working perfectly for kids, but I wonder if it will have serious pull for adults. Will it feel to childish? Or will parents want to play it so that we can play more with our children, playing games that they want to play? I look forward to finding out.

2010

2010 has kicked off. I asked Jack whether I should continue cycling, running, swimming and racing or just take it easy, eat biscuits and play more computer games. He pondered very briefly before confirming that I should keep doing what I'm doing. I think I was looking for an out.

I asked him why he felt this. He didn't know. But he was very insistent.

Nana's Trees

Jack can see a distinctive pair of trees on the hill from his bedroom. They stand together away from anything else.

He can see a similar pair of trees from the bedroom window of his nana's house (100 miles or so from our house). Therefore they're the same trees in his eyes, and are called "Nana's trees".

Biking with Jack!

We cycled to the park (and around it several times) and home again for the first time today. He had a few spills in the park but he's flying along on the bike!

Llanelli 10K

I raced again today, running at Llanelli, this time in the annual 10k race on the coastal path. The race report would be rather short, like the race: I ran hard from the start, trying to maintain a 5:45 min/mile pace (a bit of a big ask). I pretty much kept my place, if not my pace, running with a 93% of max HR average (will remeasure my LTHR next week) and finishing at 36:22. Bit bummed by the time (but sub 35 mins *was* a big ask) but happy with the result (6th place) and the new PB.

The story of the day was Jack running in the under-7's race earlier in the day. He ran 400m around a grass course and under the same finishing banner as the big race and had a great time! He's not quick, but he can keep going!

Automation

I'm feeding the kids breakfast and they really know how to make a mess. I'm sure the lino floor is getting thinner with the constant sweeping and washing. I reckon we need one of these:

I love this. Walking this weekend I tried to teach Jack (Indiana Jones) some map reading skills. He wasn't convinced that I had any idea of where we were or what we were doing.

Jack's getting into comics, which is great because I get to buy and read comics again! He spends a lot of time drawing his own. I guess Stan Lee isn't good enough for him.

He built this on his snowday this week with Kim. He's bigger than Jack!

Snowballs!

I picked Jack up from school yesterday to work on our snowball throwing.

Jack is 6!

Jack is 6 today!

Just like going out on in the cold and the rain reminds you how great a hot shower feels, having a group of 6-year-olds running around your house and screaming for a few hours reminds you how peaceful your house is.

Jack's had a great day!

Mario Kart Wii

Jack almost beat me at Mario Kart Wii on Saturday. Impressive! Here he is beating his Aunt & Uncle (both Mario Kart N64 veterans) online. Sheesh.
