Parts of the cerebrum

The cerebrum is involved in motor and sensory functions, and is the centre of "higher functions". It is particularly large in man. It has five lobes, separated by deep fissures between the lobes called sulci. Four of the lobes can be seen easily, but the insula lobe is hidden.

You can click on this model to find each lobe, and to learn a little about their primary functions.

Find the frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital and insula lobes.

Sulci & Gyri

So, the grooves are called the sulci, and the folds that form them are the gyri. If you want to explore the sulci and gyri of the cerebrum, this colourful model is perfect.
